The International Immunomics Society (IIMMS) was formed with the main objective to promote the science of Immunomics which is the interdisciplinary field spanning immunology, immuno-informatics, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and related scientific fields. The Society was concieved at the Novartis Symposium "Immuno-Informatics: Bioinformatic Strategies for Better Understanding of Immune Function" held in London on October 8-10, 2002.
The consortium provided a basis for joint work of immunomics community, but the need for more inclusive forum emerged shortly after forming the consortium. Subsequently, the IIMMS was born in July 2003.
